Tretinoin speeds up skin cell turnover. It commonly causes dryness, redness and peeling in the first weeks, and makes skin more sensitive to the sun, so it's usually applied at night with a moisturiser and daily SPF. Tretinoin or retinol?
Tretinoin is the active form of vitamin A and works faster but is more irritating. Retinol converts to it in the skin and is gentler. A dermatologist can advise which suits you.
