A1. Rivela SPF 50 uses a three-filter chemical UV system. Octinoxate (Octyl Methoxycinnamate) is a UVB-absorbing filter that absorbs the burning/DNA-damaging UVB rays peaking at 308nm; it is one of the most widely used and extensively safety-tested sunscreen filters globally. Oxybenzone (Benzophenone-3) is a broad-spectrum absorber covering both UVA and UVB wavelengths, extending protection against UVA1 radiation (320-400nm) that causes photoageing, tanning, and DNA strand breaks deep in the dermis. Octocrylene serves a dual function: it absorbs UV radiation and photostabilises Octinoxate, which degrades rapidly on UV exposure without a photostabiliser — meaning the SPF rating is maintained throughout the wear period, not just immediately after application.

The predominantly chemical filter system in Rivela SPF 50 (Octinoxate, Oxybenzone, Octocrylene) means minimal white cast compared to purely mineral formulas with high titanium dioxide or zinc oxide concentrations. The small amount of Titanium Dioxide in the formula may produce a very slight brightness on very deep skin tones, but at the concentration used, it blends to a smooth finish on most Indian skin tones. The liquid crystal technology mentioned in the formula description also improves optical blending. Those with the deepest Fitzpatrick V–VI skin tones and zero tolerance for white cast should consider a purely chemical-filter sunscreen alternative.

Reapplication every 2–3 hours during extended indoor window exposure is worthwhile, especially for those using brightening or anti-pigmentation actives. Blue light from screens is a separate consideration — the Oxybenzone broad-spectrum coverage does not extend to the visible HEV (high-energy visible) range; a separate antioxidant in the routine is needed for screen blue-light protection.
