FAQs
Q1. What makes Rilastil Age Repair SPF 50+ different from a regular SPF 50 sunscreen — do the anti-aging ingredients actually work in a sunscreen base?
A1. A standard SPF 50 sunscreen prevents UV damage from occurring in the future. Rilastil Age Repair SPF 50+ goes further: the Collagen-Boosting Peptides and Hyaluronic Acid continue working in the dermis regardless of whether UV filters are their vehicle. Peptides like Matrixyl (Palmitoyl Pentapeptide) signal fibroblasts to increase collagen and elastin production — a process that occurs over weeks and is independent of the sunscreen function. Hyaluronic Acid supports dermal hydration to maintain skin plumpness. So rather than needing separate SPF and anti-aging steps, Age Repair consolidates UV protection and active anti-aging repair into one morning product without compromising the efficacy of either function.
Q2. Should Rilastil Age Repair SPF 50+ replace a separate morning serum, or is it meant to be layered under one?
A2. It is intended to simplify the morning routine by replacing the combination of a separate moisturiser-serum plus sunscreen for most users. As the last skincare step before makeup, it should not have products applied over it that would dilute or disturb the UV filter matrix. If you use a Vitamin C serum or other morning active, apply that first, let it absorb, then apply Rilastil Age Repair SPF 50+ as the final skincare layer. People with very dry skin may benefit from applying a light moisturiser before Age Repair; those with normal-to-combination skin generally find Age Repair's Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin provide sufficient daytime hydration on their own.
Q3. Does Rilastil Age Repair SPF 50+ work for mature skin that is also prone to sensitivity — will the peptides or filters cause irritation?
A3. The peptides in this formulation (typically GRAS-status synthetic peptides) are among the most tolerated active ingredients in cosmetic dermatology. Unlike retinoids, which cause initial purging and sensitivity, peptides have virtually no irritation potential and are well-tolerated on post-menopausal skin, rosacea-prone skin, and post-procedure skin. The Spanish-manufactured formulation is developed to European cosmetic standards and dermatologically tested on sensitive skin. If you are currently using retinol or prescription actives in the evening, Age Repair SPF 50+ in the morning does not interfere with them and provides the essential daytime UV protection that amplifies the results of your night-time retinoid routine.
Q4. How does Rilastil Age Repair SPF 50+ address photoageing specifically — isn't SPF alone enough to prevent aging?
A4. SPF alone prevents future photodamage but does not address existing photoageing. UV radiation over the years has already damaged collagen fibers, created cross-links in elastin, and generated reactive oxygen species that altered gene expression in dermal fibroblasts. The collagen-stimulating peptides in Age Repair begin working on the existing damage: signalling fibroblasts to produce new collagen that replaces the photoaged matrix. Antioxidants like Vitamin E neutralise ongoing free radical activity in the skin. This combination — preventing new UV damage while actively repairing existing structural loss — produces measurably better outcomes for mature skin compared to SPF without active anti-aging ingredients.
Q5. Is SPF 50+ necessary for daily urban use in India, or is SPF 30 sufficient for most skin concerns?
A5. In India's UV Index conditions, which regularly reach 8–11 (Very High to Extreme) across most of the country from March to October, SPF 50+ is the more appropriate choice for daily urban use. The mathematical difference: SPF 30 blocks approximately 97% of UVB; SPF 50 blocks approximately 98%. While this sounds minimal, the unblocked portion at SPF 30 is 3% versus 2% at SPF 50 — SPF 50 lets in one-third less UVB than SPF 30. For Fitzpatrick types III–V (most Indian skin), where post-UV hyperpigmentation is a significant concern, that additional blocking fraction is clinically meaningful for preventing PIH and melasma recurrence. For mature or photoaged skin specifically, SPF 50+ is strongly recommended.
