FAQs
Q1. What are ingrown hairs and keratosis pilaris, and how does Noreva Kerapil address both?
A1. Ingrown hairs develop when a hair curls back or grows sideways into the skin after shaving or waxing, causing bumps and inflammation. Keratosis pilaris is the rough, bumpy texture ('chicken skin') on arms, thighs, and buttocks caused by keratin plugs blocking hair follicles. Both conditions involve abnormal keratin build-up at the follicle opening. Ammonium Lactate — an alpha-hydroxy acid with keratolytic (keratin-dissolving) properties — loosens these keratin plugs and exfoliates the surface, releasing trapped hairs and smoothing the roughness over time.
Q2. Where can it be applied on the body?
A2. Legs, arms (particularly the upper arm area affected by keratosis pilaris), inner thighs, underarms, and the bikini line — anywhere prone to ingrown hairs after shaving, waxing, or threading, or where rough, bumpy skin texture is a concern. It should not be applied on broken skin or open wounds.
Q3. Does the AHA content cause sun sensitivity?
A3. Yes — the product directions specifically advise avoiding direct sun exposure after application and using sunscreen. While this applies primarily to facial AHA products, applying it to exposed areas (legs, forearms) during daylight hours calls for SPF protection over treated areas. For evening application or under clothing, this risk is minimal.
Q4. Can it be used immediately after shaving or waxing?
A4. Avoid applying immediately after shaving or waxing on sensitised or irritated skin. Allow 24–48 hours after hair removal for the skin to settle, then begin using Kerapil regularly to prevent ingrown hair formation. Starting it before hair removal as part of a regular routine is more effective than reactive use after an ingrown hair has formed.
Q5. How long before I see smoother skin and fewer ingrown hairs?
A5. Skin texture improvement from Ammonium Lactate typically becomes noticeable within 2–3 weeks of regular use. For keratosis pilaris, meaningful smoothing takes 4–6 weeks of consistent daily use. For ingrown hair prevention, regular pre-emptive use reduces recurrence significantly over a full hair removal cycle (4–8 weeks depending on frequency).
