A1. Hypochlorous Acid and bleach (sodium hypochlorite) both contain chlorine, but they are chemically and biologically very different. HOCl is the molecule that your own white blood cells (neutrophils) produce naturally inside your body to kill pathogens — it is generated by the enzyme myeloperoxidase acting on hydrogen peroxide and chloride ions during an immune response. At the skin-safe concentrations used in Hyacyn (~0.01%), HOCl is antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory without the highly alkaline pH and caustic nature of bleach. Bleach is a strong oxidiser at an alkaline pH that destroys cell tissue; HOCl at cosmetic concentrations is biocompatible with skin cells and even mucous membranes, and is used in clinical wound care, eye irrigation, and post-surgical disinfection globally.

Acne involves Cutibacterium acnes bacterial colonisation within follicles combined with inflammatory immune response — HOCl addresses both by disrupting bacterial membranes and suppressing the subsequent inflammatory cytokine cascade. Rosacea involves Demodex mite overpopulation and dysregulated skin immune response; HOCl reduces Demodex load and calms the resulting inflammation without triggering the stinging that most rosacea-prone skin experiences with conventional antimicrobials. A3. Post-procedure (after laser, chemical peel, microneedling, dermabrasion, or cosmetic injections), the skin barrier is temporarily compromised and highly vulnerable to bacterial contamination that could cause infection, hyperpigmentation, or scarring. Hyacyn is widely used in medical skincare protocols precisely because HOCl disinfects compromised skin without the alcohol, fragrance, or preservative chemicals found in conventional antiseptics that could cause burning or reaction on sensitised post-procedure skin. It can typically be applied immediately after procedures and continued 2–3 times daily throughout the healing phase as directed by a treating physician.
Q4. Can Hydrinity Hyacyn Purifying Mist be used as a daily toning step?
A4. Yes — Hyacyn can be used as a daily facial mist after cleansing and before serum application to prepare the skin surface with a clean, low-bacterial environment. For most skin types, once or twice daily is appropriate. For oily, acne-prone, or post-procedure skin, 2–3 applications across the day (including over makeup, where it will not disturb the product layer) is beneficial. The mist format allows even application without touching the face — particularly useful for post-procedure and inflamed skin where pressing fabric against the face would cause additional irritation.

A5. At the concentration of HOCl used in Hyacyn, stinging should not occur on intact skin — the molecule is body-native and the formula pH is designed to match skin's natural acidic surface pH. On broken skin, active lesions, or immediately post-procedure, a very mild transient cooling sensation is normal and resolves within seconds. HOCl does not dry the skin the way alcohol-based antiseptics do — there are no harsh solvents in the formula. Individuals with extreme sensitivity who notice any persistent discomfort should reduce frequency and consult a dermatologist.
