FAQs
Q1. What is CeraVe's MVE technology and why does it matter in the Daily Moisturizing Lotion?
A1. MVE (Multi-Vesicular Emulsion) is CeraVe's patented delivery system in which ceramides and moisturising actives are encapsulated in layered, time-release vesicles that gradually break down throughout the day. Unlike a standard lotion that delivers all its actives on contact and then dissipates, MVE technology in CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion continues releasing ceramides, Glycerin, and Hyaluronic Acid for up to 24 hours — providing sustained moisture replenishment rather than a single application burst.
Q2. What are the three ceramides in CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion, and what do they each do?
A2. The three ceramides are NP (Ceramide 3), AP (Ceramide 6-II), and EOP (Ceramide 1) — the same ceramide types that occur naturally in human skin. Ceramide NP maintains the skin's moisture barrier, Ceramide AP supports healthy cell renewal and skin turnover, and Ceramide EOP plays a structural role in lipid lamellar bodies that prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Together with Phytosphingosine (a ceramide precursor) and Cholesterol, they replenish the three-component lipid bilayer that compromised skin barrier conditions deplete.
Q3. How does CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion differ from the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream?
A3. The Daily Moisturizing Lotion has a lighter, fast-absorbing lotion texture suited to normal to dry skin — it is oil-free and appropriate for face and body daily use, including under makeup. The CeraVe Moisturizing Cream contains Petrolatum (an occlusive agent that forms a physical barrier against water loss) and is thicker, making it better suited to dry to very dry skin, eczema-prone skin, or areas like hands, feet, and elbows where intensive moisture is needed.
Q4. Is CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion non-comedogenic and suitable for acne-prone skin?
A4. Yes — the lotion is formulated to be non-comedogenic (tested not to clog pores). Its oil-free, lightweight texture and absence of fragrance also make it suitable for acne-prone and sensitive skin. The ceramide complex supports the skin barrier repair that is often compromised in acne-prone skin, particularly by harsh acne treatments like benzoyl peroxide or retinoids.
Q5. Can CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion be used under SPF and makeup in the Indian climate?
A5. Yes — it is designed specifically as a daily base moisturiser. The non-greasy finish and quick absorption mean it layers well under sunscreen and makeup without pilling. In hot, humid Indian conditions, the lotion weight is more comfortable for daily wear than a heavier cream, providing adequate hydration without the heaviness that causes congestion or excess shine.
